Jesus, the Hater??!!

I cannot believe what I am seeing on the news today. Or, rather, I can believe it, and it makes me feel disgusted with "Christianity" on behalf of non-believers everywhere. This is disgraceful, and I cannot believe that any person who claims to believe in and follow the teachings of Christ and the Gospel could do something so insensitive and hateful as this in the name of something so petty as persecuting gay people. Not EVEN persecuting gay people, in fact, but persecuting straight people in lieu of gay people. Straight people who are mourning the loss of loved ones, no less. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/06/btsc.lavandrera.funerals/index.html

So what these so-called "Christians" would have us believe is that Christ came all this way down to Earth, and shed his blood to cover ALL the sins of the world so that his followers can take up the holy mission of driving around the country protesting the FUNERALS of dead soldiers, not because they were gay even, but because they fought for America and America accepts gay people. These are dead mean with families - wives, children and parents.

"You can't preach the Bible without preaching the hatred of God." says the self-described "old-time" pastor who leads the various members of his family on his hateful crusade against what? Grieving wives and mothers? My hat is off to you, Reverend Phelps, you are a true soldier of God. When called you to put on your army hat and go kick those poor orphaned children in the teeth, you accepted without a moment's hesitation! You sir, are as Christlike as they come!

"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. For whatever measure you use in judging others, it will be used to measure how you are judged." Matt 7:1-2

I really hope it is.. I really hope it is.

Strange how some people can't grasp the idea of loving the sinner and hating the sin, and even moreso recognizing that as christians we ARE indeed sinners, saved by God's graciousness. It's like there is this little masked belief that we are somehow better than other people living in whatever sin we are. Love does cover a multitude of sins.
We are all misunderstanding in some way or another and though Phelps is certainly not portraying a heart of love for those who are suffering, he like the rest of us needs enlightenment into the realm of his actions and he too need be seen through God's eyes of love.
my 2 cents.

Ditto to what Lisa said. This makes me mad - and it makes me sad. I feel though, that we'll probably see more of this type of thing - and we'll have to pray that God's love pentrates this kind of crap!!

"The hatred of God"... unreal. To think how many times Jesus spoke of love to us.. true God "hates" the sin - but this guy is not leaving any room for people to know he loves the sinner! Didn't Jesus say he came to save those who needed to be saved???

Wow, I can't believe that this is actually happening. It makes me so frustrated that they claim to be 'christains'. No wonder people have a foul taste in their mouths when they hear of Christians/Christianity. This is NOT what God is. God is love, not hate. I also agree with Lisa, that it's sad that people can't grasp that idea of loving the sinner, hate the sin.'sigh'.

Woe! i'm pretty much cut off from the worl where i'm at but now that i'm seein a glimps of it i'm not thinking i want to rejoin. i'm not to far on my walk with God but i can tell you one thing God doesn't Hate anyone no matter what they do or have done. i can't belive that some crazy person would actually rally people together to tell others what God Loves and Hates personally i would probably lose controle and sock the guy that told me that God hates my tears wwhen my Gay brother went to wart with the other thousands of solders and died for a country that is being told to hate him... sorry if that doesn't make sence to anyone. i think i'm going to relax a bit now have a nice day.
